A Breath of New (Wounded) Life

Church on the Hill's attendance has doubled the last month. This is specifically due to the Mars Hill Church inheritance of Doxa Church in West Seattle. The quick adjustment has left many wounded and searching. A number of folks have floated our way.

In this situation there is great excitement on the part of Church on the Hill and myself. Who doesn't like to see their church expand with faithful disciples of Christ? However, there is a period of grieving and rest needed for the former Doxa folks. I don't know if they will be lasting or temporary, but in either case I pray they're hearts will be protected from roots of bitterness, doubt and distrust growing deeper.

Please pray that I will know how to best pastor both those who have been with us faithfully for a long time and those who have been recently gifted to us. Also pray for the new folks that remain, that there may be a feeling of unity, trust and purpose within the vision of Church on the Hill.

I tried to get some "mo" going by luring the Marlows to stay, but that didn't work out. I guess the next best thing is to take in some needing a place to heal.

Chris, when you going to come back for a visit (that lasts a few years)?

I'm glad we found a place that feels like "home". You better watch out or all of us Doxa refugees might just take over Church on the Hill. I think there will be more before its all said and done. We're still trying to lure more friends from Houston to Seattle too.

I say come one come all! I don't care if people take over the church so long as they are willing to take on the vision Jesus has given the church. Otherwise we just become a big church and not an obedient church. Our only attractiveness should be our faithfulness resulting in Jesus redeeming and transforming us and our city. This must be done by the whole gang, which demands a sense of oneness. Our biggest challenge is going to be Satan's attempts to keep us in our separate sub-sections...CHILL vs. Doxa, young vs. old, leaders vs. participants, singles vs. married couples, yankees vs. texans, etc. We all come as one under the name of Christ primarily, and under our specific vision/mission secondarily.

RedKev...when we going to go get a pint at Elysian?

I have been thinking and praying abut the gelling of the elements in the body most thoroughly this week, and will continue to do so.

No big ah ha yet, patience though. I agree, shared mission in Christ is key, and I think we have that.

Vision is not far behind.

Please keep me in mind for pints as well.
